The imperials are gone…
In a dark and snowy November world, the imperial woodpeckers have disappeared without a trace. Eleven-year-old Amelia searches in vain, feeling hopeless until her attention turns to Luis, a new boy in her class from the Sierra Madre Occidental of Mexico. This mountain range is the historic home of the imperials, as well as the closest location to view an upcoming total solar eclipse.
As Amelia plots to convince her parents to travel to Mexico to see the solar eclipse and search for the imperials, she befriends Luis. However, he acts strange at the mention of traveling back home to see the eclipse himself.
As Amelia’s interest in Luis grows, it may threaten her relationship with Jessica and their upcoming twelfth birthday party. But could Luis’ family be the key to unlocking the mystery of the imperials?
While following in Grandpa Jack’s footsteps searching the mountains of Mexico, Amelia’s family makes an astonishing discovery that spans borders and might even save the imperials from extinction…on this pale blue dot we call Earth.
